Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur have made contact with ex-BenficamanagerRui Vitoria over the vacant manager’s job atthe club. According to journalist Duncan Castles,Spurs have Rui Vitoria on their list of managerial options to replace the sacked Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho was sacked as the Spurs boss on Monday after an average season in charge of the North London club. The Portuguese tactician made a bright start to the season as he led Spurs to the top of the Premier League for several weeks until results started to go south.
Ex-Chelsea, FC Porto and Real Madrid man Mourinho left Spurs in seventh place after his last game, a 2-2 draw at the home of Merseyside giants Everton on Friday night. On the back of his dismissal, Tottenham Hotspur appointed former midfielder Ryan Mason as the interim manager until the summer.
Mason led the team to a 2-1 comeback win against Southampton at home in his first game as Spurs boss thus becoming the youngest manager to win a Premier League match at the age of just 29. Spurs had to do it the hard way with two second half goals courtesy Gareth Bale and Son Heung-Min (penalty). The Saints had taken a first half lead through leading goalscorer Danny Ings.
The new Spurs boss is targeting a strong finish to the end of the season with the club still in contention to qualify for the Champions League next season. He also have the opportunity to end the long trophy drought at the club when Spurs face holders Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final this weekend.
Apart from former Benficamanager Rui Vitoria, Tottenham Hotspur also have the likes of Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers, RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann and Brighton and Hove Albion manager Graham Potter on their shortlist.
