Scottish Premiership side Hibernian are leading the race to sign Jair Tavares from Benfica in the Portuguese top flight. This is according to Edinburgh News as it was revealed that the winger will undergo his medical at Hibernian on Wednesday.
Tavares, 21, has attracted the interest of Hibernian and other clubs on the back of his impressive displays for the Benfica B-team during the just concluded season. Hibs are said to be in pole position for the Benfica player.
Young Tavares is a specialist on the left wing, but he can also play on the right wing as well as up top. He has two years left on his current contract at Portuguese giants Benfica. Tavares would be the seventh signing at Easter Road this summer if Hibernian are able to secure his transfer from Champions League quarterfinalists Benfica. The major thing separating Tavares from being the seventh summer signing at Hibernian is a medical. The other six signings at the club this summer are Ewan Henderson, Lewis Miller, David Marshall, NohanKenneh, MomodouBojang and Ricky Bushiri.
Hibs boss Lee Johnson is keen to boost his attacking options this summer and he has identified the aforementioned Tavares as the man for the job. He has witnessed the exit of a lot of wingers over the course of the last six months. Saudi Arabia side Al-Faisaly signed winger Martin Boyle from Hibernian during the January transfer window. Also, wingers Jamie Murphy and Chris Mueller left the Scottish club before the end of the latest league season. Hibs decided not to sign winger Sylvester Jasper as well after his loan deal at the club. Jasper had joined the club on loan from newly promoted Premier League team Fulham.
Scottish Premiership club Hibernian were linked with a move for Portsmouth winger Ronan Curtis earlier this summer, but recent reports revealed those reports were wide off the mark.
