New Benfica signing Jan Vertoghen has been mightily impressed with the quality of teammate HarisSeferovic as the two players prepare for battle on Wednesday night. They are expected to be on the opposing sides when Belgium play hosts to Switzerland in an international friendly scheduled to take place at the King Power Stadion in Leuven. Vertoghen will most likely be in the starting line-up for the Red Devils of Belgium, while HarisSeferovic is expected to lead the line for the Swiss team managed by Vladimir Petkovic.
Ahead of the game, ex-Tottenham Hotspur defender Vertoghenspoke to Portuguese newspaper Record about his Benfica teammate. Vertoghen raved about his ability in front of goal as he recalled the damage the Swiss international attacker did to his country in their last meeting.
HarisSeferovic was the cynosure of all eyes after he netted a hattrick to help Switzerland beat Belgium in the group stages of the inaugural UEFA Nations League. In the final game for the two teams in UEFA Nations League A Group 2, Switzerland came from 2-0 down to thrash Belgium 5-2 at home with three goals from the aforementioned Seferovic. The result ensured that Switzerland qualified for the UEFA Nations League finals ahead of Belgium.
Jan Vertoghen was a Tottenham Hotspur player until this summer when he signed for Portuguese giants Benfica as a free agent. His Spurs contract had expired at the end of last season. The veteran defender has seen HarisSeferovic in close quarters and he’s certain that his Benfica teammate would be the main man for Switzerland. He also pointed out to Record that Seferovic is in red-hot form having netted twice as a substitute in the last Benfica game, a 3-2 loss at home to Sporting Braga at the weekend. Seferovic has scored six goals in nine Benfica games this season.
